Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A French vitrine cabinet is a glass-fronted display case developed in eighteenth-century France, designed specifically to display curiosities, fine china, and silver. Characteristics often include curved cabriole legs, exotic wood veneers such as kingwood or tulipwood, ornate gilded bronze ormolu mounts, and a marble top.

Traditional French vitrines use a oak or pine carcass veneered with exotic woods like kingwood or rosewood arranged in parquetry or marquetry patterns. Mounts are cast in bronze and chased prior to gilding, while tops are frequently fitted with shaped marble slabs.

Authentic nineteenth-century French vitrines feature hand-cut joinery, heavy cast-bronze mounts fixed with original steel screws, and mercury-gilded ormolu detailing showing light natural oxidisation. The glass panels may show slight distortions or waviness consistent with period production methods.

A French vitrine cabinet serves as a focal point in contemporary living rooms, dining rooms, or hallways. Modern styling involves curating a limited selection of sculptural ceramics, modern glassware, or art objects inside to contrast the historical woodwork and gilding.

Kingwood veneers require placement away from direct sunlight and central heating sources to prevent drying and cracking. Ormolu mounts should be dusted with a soft dry brush, avoiding abrasive chemical polishes that can strip the original gilding.
