Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A door porter, also known as a weighted doorstop, gained widespread popularity in the nineteenth century during the Victorian era. Designed with long handles to prevent the user from stooping, these items were created to hold heavy interior doors open in grand houses.

Traditional door porters were cast from solid brass or iron using sand-moulding techniques. The base was weighted for stability, while the vertical rod and loop handle were threaded or fitted into the cast figure.

Authentic period pieces display hand-chased surface details, visible seam lines from two-part sand casts, and threaded construction where the handle connects to the base. They also exhibit natural surface wear, uneven patination, and minor oxidisation in recessed areas.

A fox head door porter serves as a functional accent beside an entryway or internal timber door. It can also be styled near a fireplace hearth or placed on a low shelf as a sculptural metalware piece.

Dust regularly with a dry, soft cloth to prevent buildup in the recessed cast details. To maintain an aged patina, avoid abrasive chemical polishes and rely on a light application of microcrystalline wax to protect the metal finish.
