Archival Detail
Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Edwardian writing desks typically feature lighter, more delicate proportions than Victorian furniture, often incorporating mahogany timbers, green or red leather writing surfaces, and raised superstructures with small cupboards or open shelving.

Craftsmen utilised solid mahogany or mahogany veneers, accented with brass drop handles, hand-tooled leather writing skivers, and subtle timber marquetry or stringing inlays.

Look for features such as precise dovetail drawer joints, castors on slender turned or tapered legs, authentic brass locks, and subtle decorative carving typical of the 1901 to 1910 period.

Pair the warm mahogany tones with modern task lighting, such as a minimalist brass desk lamp, and set it against neutral or deep jewel-toned walls to highlight the rich timber grain.

Dust the wood with a soft microfibre cloth and apply beeswax polish periodically along the grain, while conditioning the leather surface with a specialised leather balm to prevent drying.
