Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Nineteenth-century English gilt mirrors typically feature timber structures overlayed with sculpted gesso and finished in water-gilded or oil-gilded gold leaf. Styles ranges from Regency classical motifs to Victorian Rococo Revival detailing with foliate corners and beaded mouldings.

Craftsmen constructed these frames using softwood bases, such as pine, covered with layers of gesso. Fine detail was hand-carved or molded before gold leaf was carefully applied using water gilding techniques to achieve a bright finish.

Original pieces display age-appropriate characteristics such as natural oxidisation, slight distressing or wear to the gold leaf showing red or white bole beneath, and original timber backboards with square-cut nails.

Positioning a gilded frame above a fireplace mantelpiece, dining room sideboard, or entryway console table creates a focal point that reflects natural light across contemporary living spaces.

Dust gently using a dry, soft camel-hair brush or feather duster without applying liquid cleaners, sprays, or damp cloths, as water and chemicals can dissolve gesso and damage sensitive gold leafing.
