Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

An Edwardian open bookcase dates from the early 20th century, typically between 1901 and 1910. Characterised by a shift away from heavy Victorian ornamentation, these pieces feature lighter proportions, clean architectural lines, open shelving without glass doors, and restrained decorative details such as simple moulded cornices.

Edwardian craftsmen primarily utilised high-quality solid hardwoods such as oak, mahogany, and walnut. Construction methods frequently included hand-cut dovetail joints, tongue-and-groove back panels, and solid plinth bases to ensure long-term structural stability.

Authentic pieces from circa 1900 often show subtle signs of age including natural oxidisation of the wood, original finish wear, and traditional joinery. Look for straight, clean silhouettes combined with classical moulded details rather than elaborate carvings typical of earlier Victorian designs.

An antique open bookcase creates a striking anchor in modern spaces when styled with a mix of books, ceramics, and framed artwork. Balancing dark wood with neutral wall tones or minimalist decor allows the rich grain and patina to function as a clear focal feature without overwhelming the room.

Regular dusting with a soft, dry cloth maintains the wood surface. Apply a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year to nourish the timber and protect the finish, keeping the piece away from direct heat sources and intense sunlight to prevent timber drying or movement.
