Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Edwardian oak open bookcases typically feature clean, classical lines combined with refined decorative elements such as fluted pilasters, carved friezes, and adjustable shelf height mechanisms. They were designed to provide accessible book storage while maintaining architectural balance within domestic libraries and studies.

Pieces from this period were predominantly constructed using solid English oak or oak veneers over hardwood frames. Construction methods include traditional mortise and tenon joinery, tongue-and-groove back panels, and hand-cut saw-tooth or metal strip supports for adjustable shelving.

Authentic Waring & Gillows pieces often feature an stamped makers mark or brass nameplate on the drawer edge, back panel, or internal frame. High-quality execution, superior timber selection, precise wood carving, and smooth adjustable shelf mechanisms also indicate genuine manufacture by the firm.

Position the bookcase against a neutral or rich wall colour to frame the dark oak timber. Mix structured rows of books with curated ceramics or brass objects to break up the visual weight and balance the solid proportions.

Dust the surfaces regularly using a clean, soft microfibre cloth following the wood grain. Apply a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year to nourish the timber and protect the finish, avoiding placement near direct heat sources or radiators to prevent drying and movement.
