Antique 1920s Lonville Full Hunter Pocket Watch

1900 - 1920
Description

Antique 1920s Lonville full hunter pocket watch.

Lonville was part of the Langendorf Watch Company, a well respected Swiss watch making company and they traded for exactly 100 years from 1873, and the name has recently been revived. They used several brand names including Lanco, Larex and Lancyl.

This particular watch has a stem-winding movement which is working well. The movement is signed Lonville. The movement is protected by an inner hinged cover.

The watch itself measures 50mm diameter excluding the winding stem and the loop. The case is gold plated and was made for Langendorf by the Star Watch Case Company, Ludington, Michigan. The case has light surface marking from use and a few small “dings” to the front and some fairly gentle unevenness to the back.

The winding crown pushes in to open the front cover. Inside there is a glass lens which is in nice condition… some white natural light reflection showing in the main photo.

The dial is in nice condition with just minor marking, barely visible to the naked eye. Original blued steel hands.

The watch comes in a new presentation box.

With regards to appraisals / valuations, we receive a huge number of information requests each day and unfortunately do not have the manpower to deal with them all individually. Our advice would be to contact a local auctioneer for a full appraisal.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A full hunter pocket watch is a timepiece featuring a protective metal cover that completely encloses the dial and glass, opening via a spring mechanism triggered by pressing the winding crown.

Pocket watches from the 1920s typically featured cases made from solid gold, gold plate, or sterling silver, paired with vitreous enamel dials and tempered steel hands.

Authentic timepieces from this period feature hallmark stamps, maker signatures, or serial numbers stamped inside the case back and on the mechanical movement plates.

An antique pocket watch can be displayed on a specialised glass dome stand or brass watch holder placed on a desk, bookshelf, or mantelpiece.

Store the timepiece in a dry environment away from magnetic fields, avoid over-winding the mainspring, and arrange professional mechanical servicing every three to five years.
