An exquisite, antique Heriz rug in the scarce Dozar format.

A beautiful example, finely knotted, with shiny wool a beautiful natural dyes including a rare and wonderful green.

Heriz rugs of this age and quality are often referred to as Serapi by knowledgeable dealers and collectors.

The piece is offered in very good, original condition with even low pile throughout, with little or no repairs.

Serapi rugs are a distinct group of Northwest Persian carpets woven in the Heriz region during the nineteenth century. They are characterized by wide geometric borders, large central medallions, and balanced, spacious compositions with softer colour tones than standard Heriz textiles.

These carpets are hand-knotted using hand-spun wool pile woven onto a durable cotton foundation. Natural vegetable and plant dyes were used to create the distinct shades of madder red, indigo blue, ivory, and soft green.
