Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A kneehole desk features two side pedestals of drawers flanking a central recessed space for legs, often fitted with an interior cupboard. A serpentine front incorporates an undulating S-curve across the facade, a feature popularised during the 18th-century Georgian era.

Traditional examples are constructed from solid or veneered mahogany, featuring hand-cut dovetail joints in the drawers and solid brass hardware. The top writing surface often includes a gilt-tooled leather insert bordered by carved timber moulding.

Look for hand-cut dovetail drawer joints, oak or pine secondary woods for drawer linings, and original cast brass handles. Authentic period pieces also display hand-carved edge mouldings, natural age patina, and historical wear on the bracket feet.

Position the desk as a central feature in a home library or study alongside modern seating to create stylistic contrast. Complement the dark mahogany timber with neutral wall tones, contemporary task lighting, and subtle brass accents.

Keep the timber away from direct heat sources and intense sunlight to prevent timber movement and fading. Wax the surface periodically with a high-quality beeswax polish and clean brass hardware gently with a soft cloth without chemical polishers.
