Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A George III oak bureau is an 18th-century writing cabinet produced during the reign of King George III (17601820). It features a angled fall-front flap that opens to reveal an interior fitted with pigeonholes and small drawers, resting over a chest of long drawers.

Georgian bureaus were traditionally constructed using solid native woods such as oak or walnut, featuring hand-dovetailed drawer joints, oak lining, and solid backboards. Hardware typically includes cast brass swan-neck or bail handles with matching brass escutcheons.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-sawn timber marks, irregular hand-cut dovetails, original iron locks, and natural timber shrinkage over time. The drawers typically rest on oak runners that show historic wear, and the drop flap is supported by manual wooden lopers.

Place the bureau against a feature wall in a study, hallway, or living room to serve as both a functional workstation and a storage accent. Pair it with modern table lamps, contemporary artwork, or minimalist ceramics to balance the traditional dark timber.

Keep the bureau away from direct heat sources and direct sunlight to prevent timber warping or cracking. Apply a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year with a soft cloth to nourish the wood and maintain its protective patina.
