S and S Timms Antiques Ltd has dated this Giltwood Circular Convex Mirror to the 19th Century.
The original purpose of a convex mirror was of course to reflect and spread the source fo light into as many parts of a room as possible and this in turn can often make a room feel significantly bigger.
As a general rule the earlier the date of their construction the better although there are of course always exceptions to the rules.
With regards to this lovely little antique giltwood convex mirror it is worth noting that not only is it a great, practical size, but the relative plain design, with just a few accent details, creates real charm and simple elegance. It is often common to find far more heavily embellished examples which don't always look right for particular settings, whereas something as relatively simple as this would work just about anywhere.
As a result we think it would actually work just as well in a contemporary room setting as it would in a formal antique room setting. In combination with the relatively small size this opens up the possibility of using it in more environments than one can even begin to imagine.
As one would expect on an item this age there is various old marks, scuffs, scrpaes and repairs, but as with all items which we offer for sale the mirror has been inspected at ur workshops by our highly skilled, trained antique furniture restorers and received a clean and tidy up to ensure that it is ready to be placed straight on the wall in a home or office environment immediately following purchase.
