Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Wine coasters, also known as bottle slides, were introduced in the late eighteenth century to protect polished wooden dining tables from spills and condensation. Their flat wooden or baize-lined bottoms allowed hostesses and guests to slide decanters across the table effortlessly during formal service.

Wine coasters typically consist of a metal gallery, such as sterling silver or silver plate over copper or nickel alloy, paired with a turned hardwood insert like mahogany, oak, or rosewood. A felt or green baize cloth is applied to the underside to prevent scratching furniture surfaces.

Pieces from the early twentieth century often feature electroplate maker marks, numeric pattern codes, or country of origin stamps stamped into the metal rim or base. Authentic coasters display turned concentric rings on the wooden base and evidence of handcrafted piercing or stamping along the gallery.

Place a pair of wine coasters on a modern sideboard, bar cart, or dining table centre to hold wine bottles, olive oil carafes, or spirits decanters. They can also serve as elevated catch-all dishes for keys, jewellery, or pillars candles on coffee tables.

Clean the silver gallery using a soft cloth and non-abrasive silver foam, taking care not to saturate the wood base. Avoid submerging the coaster in water; gently polish the mahogany turned wood with a natural beeswax salve to preserve its natural grain.
