Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Old Sheffield Plate refers to a technique invented in 1742 where a layer of sterling silver was fused onto a copper ingot before being rolled into sheets. This method allowed silversmiths to produce silver tableware and accessories at a lower cost than solid sterling silver until electroplating replaced it in the 1840s.

Eighteenth-century wine coasters were constructed with a silver or silver-plated gallery frame surrounding a turned wooden inset base. The base, often made of mahogany or fruitwood, provided stability and prevented bottle condensation from marking polished wooden dining surfaces.

Authentic Old Sheffield Plate pieces frequently display copper showing through slightly at raised edges or points of friction, known as bleeding. They also lack modern electroplate stamps, featuring drawn wire borders and visible seam joins on the interior of the galleries.

Antique silver wine coasters can be placed on a sideboard or dining table as functional decanter stands or repurposed as decorative trinket dishes on a console table. Their metallic finish and wooden centres complement both traditional dark wood furniture and contemporary minimalist settings.

Clean Old Sheffield Plate using a mild soapy water solution and a soft cloth, taking care not to submerge the wooden base in water. Use specialised silver polish sparingly to avoid wearing away the fused silver layer, and dry the metal thoroughly after cleaning.
