Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Dining chairs from the Scottish Regency and William IV periods typically feature top rails with carved scrolls or shell motifs, curved bar backs, and sabre front legs. Cabinetmaking workshops from Scotland during this era favoured dense mahogany with prominent grain figure and solid structural proportions.

These chairs were predominantly crafted from solid mahogany, valued for its density and rich dark tone. Construction relies on traditional mortise and tenon joinery, often with corner blocks reinforcing the internal seat frame for stability.

Authentic 19th-century pieces show hand-cut joinery marks, slight variations across matching sets due to hand-carving, and natural patination on high-touch surfaces. Inspecting the frame underside reveals historic tool marks and traditional webbed seat construction.

Set a suite of mahogany chairs around a minimalist stone or simple timber dining table to create contrast between historical detail and contemporary surfaces. Recovering seat pads in neutral linen or textured monochrome fabric lightens the visual weight of dark wood tones.

Dust the wood frame regularly with a lint-free cloth and apply beeswax twice yearly following the direction of the grain to preserve the timber finish. Position seating away from direct radiators and prolonged sunlight to prevent joint shrinkage and uneven bleaching.
