Antique Silver Meyer & Studeli Pocket Watch, 1927

1900 - 1920
Description

Antique silver Meyer & Studeli pocket watch, 1927.

The watch has a Swiss stem-winding movement which is working nicely, and it is all protected by an inner hinged cover.

The watch measures 50mm diameter excluding the winding stem and the loop. The case is silver and there are hallmarks for Glasgow (import mark) 1927 with a sponsor’s mark for Meyer & Studeli. Meyer & Studeli (MST) was a renowned Swiss watch manufacturer founded in 1905 in Solothurn by Fritz Meyer and Johann Studeli. They went on to become the renowned Roamer watch brand. The front of the case is in good condition. The back of the watch has some unevenness but it is fairly gentle and not too detrimental.

The acrylic lens is in lovely condition.

The dial is in lovely condition with blued steel hands, a subsidiary seconds dial and outer minute track.

The watch comes in a new presentation box.

Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

During the 1920s, Swiss watchmakers perfected mass-precision horology while transitioning between pocket watches and wristwatches. Open-face designs provided immediate legibility and were commonly produced in sterling or continental silver for daily pocket wear.

Cases were typically crafted from solid silver, gold, or nickel alloy, housing mechanical brass movements with jewelled bearings. Dials were frequently made from fired vitreous enamel to prevent fading over time.

Authentic pieces feature hallmark stamps inside the case back indicating silver purity, maker initials, and date letters. The dial usually exhibits hand-painted or printed Roman numerals alongside a dedicated subsidiary seconds sub-dial.

Pocket watches can be displayed under glass cloches or mounted on dedicated brass pocket watch stands placed on desks, bookshelves, or mantelpieces to add an historical touch to a study or living area.

Store the timepiece in a dry, temperature-controlled environment away from magnetic fields. Mechanical movements require periodic servicing by a qualified horologist every three to five years to replace degraded lubricants.
