1950s Bravingtons Renown Pocket Watch

Description

1950s Bravingtons Renown pocket watch.

The watch has a Swiss 15-jewel Unitas 231 stem-winding movement which is working nicely. The movement is signed with the name of the original retailer, Bravingtons. The company registered the Renown name in 1935 for Swiss watches to be sold under the Bravingtons name.

The watch measures 50mm diameter excluding the winding stem and the loop. The case is chromium plated. There is light marking, mainly to the back of the watch, but overall the condition is very acceptable.

The glass lens is in good condition.

The signed dial is in lovely condition with original blued steel hands, a subsidiary seconds dial and outer minute track.

The watch comes in its original Bravingtons presentation box.

With regards to appraisals / valuations, we receive a huge number of information requests each day and unfortunately do not have the manpower to deal with them all individually. Our advice would be to contact a local auctioneer for a full appraisal.

During the mid-twentieth century, traditional London jewellers such as Bravingtons imported high-grade Swiss movements to house in British-market cases. These reliable mechanical timepieces remained popular for formal wear and professional presentation gifts even as wristwatches grew dominant.

Mid-century pocket watches typically feature cases crafted from nickel, chrome-plated base metal, or solid silver, housing a Swiss lever movement. The dials were usually finished in cream or white enamel with thermally blued steel hands and printed numerals.
