Antique Silver Half Hunter Pocket Watch, 1922

1900 - 1920
Description

Antique silver half hunter pocket watch, 1922.

The watch has a Swiss hand-winding movement which is working nicely. The movement is protected by an inner hinged cover which is engraved, ‘To M Gallon from Mother and Dad, Oct 19 1923’.

The watch measures 50mm diameter excluding the winding stem and the loop. The case is silver and there are hallmarks inside all three covers for Birmingham 1922 with a case maker’s mark for Aaron Dennison, a prolific case maker and supplier to various watch manufacturers. There is some slight unevenness, a bit more to the back of the watch. The back of the watch has the rubbed initials MG which ties in which the inner inscription.

The winding crown pushes in to open the front cover. Inside, there is an acrylic lens which is in good condition (some natural light reflection in the main photo).

The dial is in lovely condition and it has the special half hunter hand so that the time can be read when the front cover is closed.

The watch comes in a new presentation box.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A half hunter pocket watch features a protective outer cover with a central glass aperture, allowing the owner to read the time without opening the front case.

Pocket watches from this era were primarily crafted using solid sterling silver or gold cases, fitted with vitreous enamel dials and mechanical steel movements.

Authentic British silver timepieces feature official assay hallmarks stamped inside the case back, indicating the silver purity, city of assay, and date letter.

An antique pocket watch can be displayed under a glass dome cloche or hung on a specialized brass pocket watch stand on a desk or bookshelf.

Mechanical timepieces require periodic servicing by a horologist every three to five years, along with gentle exterior wiping using a dry microfiber cloth to prevent oxidisation.
