Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Aesthetic Movement bedsteads from the late 19th century feature geometric symmetry, turned vertical spindles, and stylized decorative motifs such as roundels or floral medallions. Moving away from heavy Victorian ornamentation, this style prioritises balanced proportions and refined metalwork.

Victorian brass bedsteads were typically constructed using hollow brass tubing fitted over internal iron rods for structural integrity. The corner joints feature cast-iron dovetail brackets that slot directly into matching side rails to securely connect the headboard and footboard.

Authentic period pieces display cast-iron connecting joints rather than modern threaded bolts, alongside natural surface oxidisation and wear to the lacquer. Hand-finished brass seams, heavy cast decorative components, and original iron frame rails further confirm 19th-century manufacture.

A brass bedstead acts as a focal point when paired with modern crisp linen bedding, neutral wall tones, or contrasting dark paint palettes. Complementing the frame with contemporary lighting or minimalist side tables prevents the room from feeling overly historic.

Dust the brass work regularly with a soft dry cloth to prevent debris accumulation. Avoid abrasive chemical cleaners or metal polishes that remove protective lacquer coats; application of microcrystalline wax preserves the existing patina.
