Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Victorian brass bedsteads typically feature tubular or square metal frames with decorative cast brass joints, finials, and motifs such as barley twist detailing. Manufactured widely in the late 19th century, these frames were favoured for their durability and hygienic properties compared to wooden alternatives.

Authentic Victorian bedsteads combine solid brass components, brass-veneered iron tubing, and cast-iron subframes with corner joints called dovetail cleats. The decorative elements often incorporate cast brass rosettes, turned urn finials, and twisted brass columns.

Authentic Victorian beds generally exhibit heavy cast-iron side rails that drop into matching cast slots on the corner posts. Look for hand-finished brass castings, original stamped maker marks or numbers, and natural surface patination rather than uniform modern electroplating.

A traditional brass bedstead creates a strong visual focal point in a bedroom when paired with crisp white linen bedding or textured woven throws. It complements both period revival schemes with bold wall colours and softer minimalist interiors seeking a vintage accent piece.

Dust the brass regularly with a soft, lint-free cloth and clean using gentle soap and warm water if necessary, avoiding harsh abrasive chemical cleaners. To preserve an aged patina, avoid aggressive metal polishes and apply a light layer of microcrystalline wax to protect against oxidisation.
