In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Victorian iron and brass bedsteads gained widespread popularity in the mid-to-late nineteenth century as a hygienic alternative to traditional wooden frames. Advances in industrial casting allowed manufacturers to produce durable metal frames with decorative brass rails, cast ornaments, and porcelain castors.

Traditional nineteenth-century bed bedsteads were constructed using cast iron for decorative corner brackets and joints, wrought iron or steel for vertical spindles and frames, and spun or solid brass for top rails, knobs, and finials. Decorative accents sometimes featured mother-of-pearl or hand-painted enamel.

Authentic pieces feature heavy cast iron corner joints known as dovetail or drop-in lugs, heavy-gauge tubing, and hand-fitted brass components. Original brass elements often display natural patination, minor imperfections, and threaded finial fixings rather than modern clipped fastenings.

Pair the contrasting black iron and warm brass tones with crisp white or neutral linen bedding to highlight the silhouette. Combine with timber bedside tables and textured textiles to balance the metal structure within contemporary or classic bedroom schemes.

Dust painted ironwork regularly using a soft dry cloth and apply a thin coat of clear microcrystalline wax to protect against oxidisation. Clean brass fittings gently with a dedicated metal polish to preserve shine, taking care to avoid harsh chemicals on delicate shell or decorative inlays.
