Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

The French Regence style, spanning the early 18th century transition between Louis XIV and Louis XV eras, is defined by symmetrical structures decorated with classical motifs, acanthus foliage, strapwork, and sculpted masks. Nineteenth-century revivals maintained these balanced forms, pairing rich dark patinated bronze with mercury-gilded highlights.

French candelabra of this period were primarily cast in bronze using the lost-wax or sand-casting method. Decorative contrast was achieved by combining dark chemical patination with mercury gilding (ormolu) on chased elements such as capital mounts, leaf motifs, and flame finials.

Authentic 19th-century examples display substantial weight, sharp hand-chased surface details, and threaded assembly rod systems joining individual cast sections. Natural age wear to the gilded surfaces and dark oxidisation in recessed areas are typical indicators of genuine period manufacturing.

A pair of bronze candelabra can be placed symmetrically on a marble mantelpiece or a contemporary sideboard to flank a central mirror or painting. Their contrasting dark metal and gilt finishes provide visual grounding in both traditional and minimalist interior schemes.

Dust regularly using a dry, soft lint-free cloth or a natural bristle brush to reach recessed casting details. Avoid chemical cleaners, metal polishes, or water, as liquid solutions can strip original patination and compromise fragile gilding.
