Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

The Charles X period (18241830), also known as the French Restoration, combined classical Empire silhouettes with lighter floral and foliate motifs. Decorative metalwork from this era frequently features detailed relief chasing, acanthus leaf flourishes, and proportioned fluted columns.

Ormolu candelabra were crafted using cast bronze coated in a thin layer of gold via mercury gilding. The process involved fire-gilding molten gold amalgam onto chased bronze surfaces, resulting in a durable, reflective finish.

Authentic 19th-century ormolu typically exhibits substantial weight from solid bronze castings and fine hand-chased details. Original pieces often feature period-appropriate thread work on internal iron rods and subtle surface wear or oxidisation where handling occurred.

These pieces function as symmetrical focal points when arranged on a stone mantelpiece, marble sideboard, or central dining surface. Placing gilded metal against matte dark backdrop walls or neutral stone creates contrast within modern scheme layouts.

Ormolu should be dusted gently using a soft, dry microfibre cloth or horsehair brush. Liquid metal polishes and abrasive chemicals must be avoided, as they strip the original gilded layer and damage the underlying patina.
