London City Antiques has dated this Victorian Mahogany Bedside Cupboard to the 1860s.

Originally designed as a bedside cupboard, often referred to as a pot cupboard, this piece would have been used in Victorian bedrooms before indoor plumbing. The lower cupboard was intended to house a chamber pot while the upper section provided space for a candle, water jug or personal items.

The turned supports and simple well-balanced proportions reflect practical Victorian design, while the use of mahogany gives the piece a more refined appearance than many everyday examples and shows it was made to a better standard.

Today it makes a highly versatile piece, ideal as a bedside table, lamp stand or compact side cabinet, offering useful storage while retaining its original character.
