Archival Detail
Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Ipswich Oak refers to 20th-century reproduction furniture made in the style of 16th and 17th-century English Tudor and Jacobean design. Pieces typically feature rich dark oak finishes, heavy relief carvings, turned legs, and sturdy mortise and tenon construction.

These items are constructed primarily from solid oak timber, frequently utilizing oak veneers for drawer linings or panel work. Accompanying mirrors use silvered glass mounted in wooden frames, while stools feature turned wood legs with textile upholstery.

Authentic period reproduction pieces display hand or machine-carved relief patterns such as lunettes or scrollwork, hand-fitted dovetail drawer joints, original patinated brass or wooden teardrop handles, and solid stretcher bases connecting turned legs.

To integrate dark timber into modern spaces, place the desk against neutral or pale painted walls to create contrast. Complement the rich wood tones with simple modern table lamps, contemporary glass accessories, or light linen textiles.

Dust surfaces regularly using a clean, soft microfibre cloth following the wood grain. Apply a high-quality natural beeswax polish twice a year to maintain the protective patina, and position the furniture away from direct heat sources or damp environments.
