Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

French Provincial dressing tables originated in 18th-century regional France, adapting royal court designs like Louis XV for country homes. They typically feature hand-carved floral or scrollwork detailing, cabriole legs, serpentine fronts, and built-in or attached mirrors.

These pieces were traditionally constructed from solid hardwoods such as oak, walnut, or fruitwood, often fitted with brass hardware and mirrored glass plates. Dovetail joinery and mortise-and-tenon frame construction were standard structural methods.

Authentic pieces feature structural indicators like hand-cut dovetail drawers, original brass pull handles, carved cabriole legs, and hand-bevelled mirrors. Examining the underside and rear panels for hand-saw marks and original wood patina also aids identification.

Position the dressing table against a neutral or subtly papered wall to highlight its carved silhouette. Pair with minimalist brass desk accessories, modern ceramic trays, or a simple upholstered stool to balance traditional woodwork with modern design elements.

Dust regularly with a soft, lint-free cloth, avoiding harsh chemical cleaners that strip natural finishes. Apply a clear beeswax polish annually to nourish the oak grain, and clean glass mirrors with a damp cloth, avoiding excess moisture near timber edges.
