Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

19th-century cabriole stools feature outward-curving S-shaped legs inspired by Rococo and Queen Anne design movements. Crafted primarily from dense mahogany, these versatile seating pieces were designed as vanity stools, footrests, or additional seating in formal interiors.

Cabinetmakers typically used solid mahogany or walnut for the carved legs and frame, favoured for structural strength and rich timber grain. The seats were padded using natural materials such as horsehair and cotton wadding over webbed timber frames.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-carved details along the cabriole knees and scroll feet, displaying natural asymmetry compared to modern reproductions. Look for age-appropriate wear, natural timber shrinkage near joints, and original dowel or mortise-and-tenon joinery beneath the frame.

Position the stool at the foot of a bed, beside a fireplace hearth, or paired with a dressing table to introduce period character. Neutral or textured upholstery fabrics allow dark timber legs to contrast cleanly with contemporary interior schemes.

Dust the timber legs regularly with a soft cloth and apply beeswax polish annually along the wood grain to maintain the finish. Gently vacuum the upholstered seat using a low-suction brush attachment, and keep the piece clear of direct heat sources to prevent timber cracking.
