London City Antiques has dated these Regency Mahogany Dining Chairs to the 19th Century.

Each chair features a shaped top rail above a finely carved mid rail with a central roundel and flowing leaf decoration, a classic Regency design that gives both detail and refinement without being overly ornate. The carvers are particularly well drawn with shaped arms and turned supports offering both comfort and presence at the head of the table.

Raised on slender sabre legs to the rear with elegant front legs, the chairs are well balanced and sturdy. The seats are traditionally stuff over upholstered giving a softer more refined appearance and a comfortable sit in keeping with higher quality Regency examples.

In the Regency period such chairs were made for formal dining rooms where style and proportion were just as important as comfort. Today they remain highly versatile and work equally well in both traditional and more contemporary interiors.
