Archival Detail
Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

An Edwardian bureau bookcase, dating from approximately 1901 to 1910, typically features a slanted fall-front writing surface set below a glazed display cabinet. The design emphasises classical proportions, delicate marquetry or inlay work, and lighter wood tones compared to earlier Victorian furniture.

These pieces were predominantly crafted using solid and veneered mahogany, often incorporating satinwood or boxwood inlays for decorative banding and marquetry motifs. Glass panels with wood astragal glazing bars comprise the upper doors, supported by brass hardware.

Authentic pieces display period-specific features such as hand-cut dovetail joints on internal drawers, original glass with subtle imperfections, and cast brass handles. Look for neoclassical motifs like leaf or urn marquetry medallions on the slant fall front.

Place the unit against a feature wall in a home office, living room, or hallway to serve as a focal point. Use the upper glazed shelves to display contemporary ceramics or structured book collections, balancing the rich mahogany wood tones.

Dust mahogany surfaces regularly with a soft, lint-free cloth and apply high-quality beeswax twice yearly to protect the timber finish. Clean glass panels using a dedicated glass cleaner applied to a cloth rather than sprayed directly onto the wood.
