Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Victorian iron and brass beds emerged in the mid-to-late nineteenth century, combining sturdy wrought or cast iron frames with polished brass rails and decorative finials. They were mass-produced following industrial manufacturing advancements and favoured for their hygiene, durability, and classic design.

These bedsteads were primarily constructed using cast iron for corner joints and decorative mounts, wrought iron for framework and vertical spindles, and tubular brass for upper rails, caps, and finials.

Authentic period pieces feature heavy cast iron corner dovetail joints (often called chill joints) where the side rails slot into the headboard and footboard. Original brass components typically show natural oxidisation, hand-turned thread fittings, and slight irregularities consistent with Victorian manufacturing.

A Victorian iron bedstead acts as an architectural focal point in both traditional and contemporary settings. Style with crisp white linen or layered neutral textiles to contrast against the dark ironwork, pairing with minimalist timber side tables or traditional mahogany furniture.

Keep the ironwork dry and clean using a soft microfiber cloth, applying a thin layer of microcrystalline wax to prevent rust. Brass components should be dusted regularly and gently buffed with a dedicated metal polish only when necessary to maintain lacquer or original patina.
