In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Victorian brass and iron bedsteads typically feature cast iron frames decorated with vertical spindles, decorative cast joints, and polished brass top rails or finials. Popular during the late nineteenth century, these beds were valued for their durability and hygienic metal construction compared to traditional timber frames.

Original Victorian bedsteads were manufactured using a combination of wrought iron rods, cast iron corner joints or decorative chills, and brass caps or rails. The frames connected via dovetail joints at the corners, resting on side rails designed to support slatted or mesh bases.

Authentic period pieces feature heavy cast iron joints with visible casting marks, threaded brass finials, and original castors on the feet. The brass elements are typically rolled or hollow tube capped over iron cores, showing natural patination and aged solder joints rather than uniform modern plating.

A single Victorian iron bed works well in guest rooms, childrens bedrooms, or cottage interiors when paired with natural linen bedding and neutral wall tones. Combining the dark iron frame with warm wood accent furniture balances the industrial texture with soft textiles.

Clean the iron frame using a dry microfibre cloth, applying microcrystalline wax to painted areas to prevent rust formation. Brass components should be dusted gently and polished occasionally with a specialised metal cleaner if a bright finish is preferred, or left unpolished to preserve the patina.
