Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Edwardian bedsteads from the early twentieth century typically combine structural iron frames with decorative brass top rails and finials. They evolved from heavier Victorian designs into lighter, simpler silhouettes featuring straight vertical spindles and subtle cast ornamentation.

These beds were constructed using wrought or tubular iron frames held together with cast-iron joint sockets, often referred to as corner cast knots. The brass components, such as top bars and urn finials, were attached over the iron structure to provide a polished upper trim.

Authentic period bedsteads feature heavy cast-iron corner fittings, original drop-in side rails, and slight irregularities in the hand-cast decorative collars. Genuine brass elements were often spin-formed or heavy-gauge sheet metal wrapped over iron cores rather than thin modern electroplating.

An antique metal bed frame works well alongside crisp white cotton or neutral linen bedding to create textural contrast. Pairing the dark metalwork with natural timber side tables or contemporary lighting balances historical structure with modern softness.

Painted iron sections should be dusted with a soft dry cloth and sealed with clear microcrystalline wax to prevent oxidisation. Brass fittings can be kept clean with a soft cloth, avoiding harsh chemical polishes that strip protective patination.
