We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Regency dining chairs, dating from the early nineteenth century, are defined by classical proportions, clean architectural lines, and refined backrest details such as turned spindles, bar backs, or scrollwork. They were predominantly crafted from solid mahogany and frequently designed as matching sets containing both side chairs and armchairs with out-swept arms.

Primary construction utilised solid West Indian or South American mahogany for the frame, valued for its density and fine grain. Seat frames were typically webbed and padded using natural horsehair, covered in wool, silk, or velvet upholstery, and secured with brass studs.

Authentic Regency chairs exhibit hand-cut joinery including mortise and tenon joints, subtle irregularities from hand-tooling, and natural patination on the timber finish. Original pieces often show historical seat frame construction with corner blocks and hand-formed brass upholstery tacks rather than modern machine staples.

To integrate Regency chairs into modern spaces, pair them with contemporary dining tables made from glass, marble, or minimalist timber. The warm tones of mahogany contrast effectively against neutral wall palettes, lime washes, or modern architectural backdrops.

Maintain mahogany timber by dusting regularly with a soft dry cloth and applying a high-grade beeswax polish once or twice a year to preserve the patina. Keep the chairs away from direct heat sources and direct sunlight to prevent timber shrinkage, joint loosening, and fabric fading.
