Archival Detail
Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A George III mahogany bureau is a slant-front writing desk produced during the reign of King George III (17601820). It typically features a hinged sloping flap that opens to reveal an interior fitted with pigeonholes and small drawers, positioned above three to four larger graduated exterior drawers.

These pieces were primarily crafted from solid mahogany or mahogany veneers over oak or pine carcass wood. Construction features include hand-cut dovetail joints, brass swan-neck handles, steel locks, and traditional bracket feet.

Authentic Georgian bureaux display hand-sawn wood marks, hand-cut uneven dovetail joinery, original brass hardware with natural oxidisation, and wear consistent with age on the drawer runners and writing flap hinges.

A traditional mahogany bureau works well as a compact home office desk or hallway focal point. Pairing dark timber with neutral walls, contemporary table lamps, or modern artwork creates a balanced blend of historical character and modern design.

Preserve the finish by applying a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year, wiping along the grain. Keep the item away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent wood shrinkage, warping, or sun fading.
