Prometheus Antiques has dated this Georgian Giltwood Oval Mirror to the Georgian era.
The mirror is in excellent condition, it was purchased from Charles Lumb & Sons Ltd, Harrogate in the 1960’s and it is likely it had had minor restoration then and was regilded all to the highest level. The mirror retains two makers labels on the reverse, the oldest is for Thomas Carver & Gilder the Corner of Mincing Lane in Fenchurch St London who worked at the end of the eighteenth century and would have originally made the piece. The other label is for W Baker Carver and Gilder of Thames-Street, Windsor. It is most likely that this craftsman either made repairs or added additions to the original design. The whole is a wonderful example of the type that is ready to hang. C.1790.
