Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A George II card table refers to a gaming or tea table made in Britain during the reign of King George II (17271760). These tables feature hinged tops that fold out, shaped corners designed for candle stands or gaming counters, and slender cabriole legs.

Dense, imported West Indian mahogany was the preferred timber during this era due to its durability and fine grain. Internally, secondary woods such as oak or pine were commonly used for framing and drawer linings, with green baize or timber linings on the gaming surface.

Authentic pieces feature mid-18th-century construction details, such as hand-cut dovetails, gate-leg or concertina folding mechanisms, and hand-carved cabriole legs ending in pad or ball-and-claw feet. The timber should show age-appropriate patina and natural wear to the underside of the frame.

When closed, a George II card table functions as a console or side table in a hallway or living room. Placing a contemporary lamp, framed art, or ceramic vessel on top creates a balanced contrast between historic craftsmanship and modern design.

Keep the wood away from direct sunlight and artificial heat sources to prevent cracking or fading. Dust regularly with a soft cloth and apply a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year to preserve the original finish.
