Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Introduced prominently during the Georgian period, fold-over card tables were designed for social card games such as ombre, quadrille, and whist. When folded closed, the table served as a decorative wall-side console, and when opened, it provided a square top often fitted with corner dishes for candlesticks and recessed wells for gaming counters.

Tables from this era were predominantly crafted from dense Cuban mahogany, prized for its dark colour and stability. Construction features typically include hand-cut lap joints, gate-leg or swing-leg mechanisms to support the hinged leaf, hand-carved cabriole legs, and pad or ball-and-claw feet.

Authentic pieces display signs of period craftsmanship, such as hand-sawn timber marks on unrefined undersides, original iron or brass butt hinges, hand-carved leg detailing, and natural shrinkage across the solid wood top. The underside framing often shows hand-chiselled mortise and tenon joinery.

Positioned against a wall in a hallway, living room, or study, the table functions as a compact console table when closed. It provides a flat wooden surface for displaying table lamps, ceramics, or books, while retaining the capability to unfold for interactive use during gatherings.

Preserve the natural timber surface by applying a high-quality beeswax paste once or twice a year, buffing with a soft cotton cloth. Keep the table away from direct heat sources and radiators to prevent timber shrinkage or cracking, and wipe spills immediately with a dry cloth.
