A Regency dumb waiter is a tiered piece of dining room furniture introduced in the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries. Designed with circular tiers on a central column, it allowed diners to self-serve without servants present in the room.

These serving stands were predominantly crafted from solid timber such as flame mahogany or rosewood, frequently feature hand-turned central pillars, and are supported on tripod bases with brass castors.

Authentic period examples feature hand-cut joinery, graduated solid wood trays often with turned or moulded rims, hand-turned carved columns, and original brass castors attached to splayed tripod legs.

An antique dumb waiter functions as an occasional side table, a multi-tiered display for house plants, or a dedicated drinks stand in a living room, dining space, or library alcove.

Dust regularly using a dry microfiber cloth and apply beeswax periodically along the grain to nourish the timber. Avoid placement directly adjacent to radiators or in strong, direct sunlight to prevent timber movement or bleaching.
