Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Victorian dressing tables from the 19th century often feature carved mahogany frames, integrated central mirrors, and raised side drawers or trinket sets. These pieces were designed as prominent bedroom furniture, showcasing detailed woodwork and classical proportions.

Solid mahogany and mahogany veneers were widely favoured during the Victorian era due to their rich tone and durability. Construction typically utilised hand-cut dovetail joints, brass hardware, and silvered glass for mirror plates.

Authentic Victorian pieces often display signs of age such as hand-carved details, slight irregularities in dovetail joints, original mirror desilvering, and natural wood grain variations. The presence of period maker stamps or brass castors also assists in identification.

A period dressing table creates a focal point when placed against neutral or minimalist walls, contrasting historic craftsmanship with modern textures. Pair it with contemporary lighting, understated accessories, or modern seating to balance the traditional aesthetic.

Keep mahogany away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent timber cracking or polish fading. Apply high-quality beeswax twice yearly using a soft cloth, following the grain direction to preserve the natural finish.
