Antique Carved Oak Aneroid Barometer with Thermometer

A very decorative antique carved oak aneroid barometer with integrated thermometer, mounted on a finely shaped backplate. The case is richly carved with stylised foliate and scroll motifs, giving the piece a strong decorative presence typical of late Victorian wall barometers.

The circular enamel dial is clearly marked with weather indications including Stormy, Rain, Change, Fair and Very Dry, with a central pointer and outer pressure scale. Above, the original mercury thermometer is housed within a glazed rectangular aperture, completing the traditional two-instrument configuration commonly found on quality Victorian examples.

The solid oak case displays attractive grain and deep carving throughout, particularly to the crest and lower apron which feature bold shell and acanthus forms. The brass bezel frames the dial nicely and contrasts well with the rich tone of the oak.

A practical as well as decorative wall piece, this barometer would make an excellent feature in a study, hallway or period interior.

Condition

Very good antique condition with minor age-related wear. The dial remains clear and the carved oak case retains a good colour and patina.
