Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A stick barometer, also known as a cistern barometer, is a wall-mounted meteorological instrument designed with a vertical timber casing housing a mercury-filled glass tube to record atmospheric pressure changes.

Victorian stick barometers were typically crafted using dense hardwoods such as oak or mahogany for the casing, combined with blown glass tubes, mercury, and engraved bone, ivory, or silvered brass register plates.

Authentic late 19th-century examples display maker marks engraved directly onto the register plates, Period-correct timber mouldings, original vernier control knobs, and hand-fitted glass panels.

A stick barometer functions as an architectural accent when hung in vertical wall spaces, alongside gallery walls in hallways, or positioned within a traditional home office or library.

Keep the barometer securely fixed in a strictly upright position, away from direct heat sources or drafts, and clean the timber surface using a dry microfibre cloth and natural beeswax polish.
