Description

Circa 1900 all woollen flat weave weft worked bread or dining sofreh.

Has a curious worked s-motif to the left side inside the terracotta reddy field.

Has been hand washed and makes for a nice wall or furniture display draped over back of a settee or armchair.

Size is 3 foot 8 inches by 3 foot 9 inches. 112cm X 115cm.

A sofreh is a traditional flatwoven textile crafted by the nomadic Afshar tribe of south-eastern Persia. Historically used as a spread for communal meals or bread preparation, these textiles feature distinctive geometric patterns and functional flatweave construction.

Sofreh rugs are traditionally hand-woven using locally sourced hand-spun wool for both the warp and weft. The colours are derived from natural vegetable dyes, and the weaving technique combines flatweave structures with geometric motifs.
