Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

French gilded bronze chandeliers, often associated with eighteenth and nineteenth-century design styles such as Louis XV and Rococo, feature cast bronze decorated with gold amalgam through mercury gilding (ormolu) or electroplating, characterised by scrollwork, foliate motifs, and classical figures.

These light fittings were cast using lost-wax or sand-casting methods before being hand-chased to create sharp decorative detail. The cast metal components were assembled with threaded iron rods and pins, then finished with a mercury gilding process to achieve a gold surface.

Authentic pieces feature hand-chased detail in the castings, noticeable visual weight from solid bronze, and historical assembly method evidence such as square hand-cut nuts. The gilding typically displays natural wear and patination in receded areas.

In contemporary settings, an ornate bronze chandelier acts as a primary focal point when hung above a dining table or within a high-ceilinged entrance hall. The warm tone of the gilt finish provides contrast against neutral walls or dark scheme interiors.

Dust regularly using a soft feather duster or dry microfibre cloth. Avoid aggressive metal polishes or abrasive chemical solvents, as these strip away original gilded layers; mild soapy water applied sparingly with a damp cloth is sufficient for cleaning.
