Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

French gilt bronze chandeliers are ornate ceiling light fixtures originating in 18th and 19th-century France. They are defined by heavy cast bronze construction, gold mercury gilding or polished brass finishing, and elaborate sculptural details such as scrolling acanthus leaves, cherubs, and central baluster columns.

These lighting fixtures were traditionally crafted using heavy cast bronze or brass alloys. The surfaces were frequently embellished using the ormolu process, where gold amalgam was applied to the bronze base, alongside white painted or wax sleeves designed to imitate real tallow candles.

Authentic period pieces exhibit considerable visual weight, hand-chased metalwork details, and age-appropriate surface oxidisation in recessed areas. Look for evidence of historical conversions from gas or candle power to electricity, original foundry stamps, and threaded iron or brass internal rods.

Designers frequently position these elaborate light fixtures in spaces with generous ceiling heights, such as grand entrance halls, formal dining rooms, or modern drawing rooms. The intricate metalwork creates a striking contrast against understated contemporary architecture and neutral colour palettes.

Regular dusting with a soft, dry microfibre cloth or feather duster is recommended to prevent dirt buildup. Avoid abrasive chemical cleaners and liquid polishes, which can strip the delicate original gilded surface or patination; professional electrical testing should be conducted periodically.
