S and S Timms Antiques Ltd has dated this Georgian Mahogany Display Cabinet to the 18th Century.

This is a really lovely quality georgian display cabinet. Or possibly it should actually be described as an 18th century bookcase! Its of such an unusual form that it is difficult to pin down its original purpose, although it must be said that now the relatively compact proportions, neat design and excellent functionality make it a great option for the modern home.
The mahogany used in the construction is good quality and this can be seen with the well figured veneers in various places.

The bottom part however is most unusual indeed. Where one would perhaps expect to find a couple of cupboard doors, or a full length back of drawers, what you actually find is a typical little georgian side table, or dressing type table. With five drawers which retain their original brass knobs its actually both practical and elegant all at the same time.

Despite the unusual combination of sections there is absolutely no doubt whatsoever that this piece of furniture is in its original form and the two pieces definitely started their lives together back in the late 18th century. We actually think the unusual form and relative quirkiness add a real charm to this piece and it would be a great addition to many a home!

As with all of our items this antique georgian bookcase has been inspected and attended to in our workshops by our highly skilled, specialist antique furniture restorers and received a natural wax polish to ensure it is in its absolute best possible condition before being placed on sale and ready for immediate placement within the home or office. Some of the glazing may be replaced but by far the majority is original.
