Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

French Empire mantel clocks typically date from the early nineteenth century and feature classical neoclassical motifs, allegorical figures, and high-quality gilt bronze sculptural elements mounted on solid marble bases.

These timepieces traditionally utilise fire-gilded bronze, also known as ormolu, combined with decorative marble pedestals, white enamel dials, and hand-finished mechanical movements.

Authentic pieces feature heavy mercury gilding with fine hand-chasing detail, counting wheel striking mechanisms, silk-thread or wire pendulum suspensions, and period-appropriate classical iconography.

Place the clock as a focal piece on a marble fireplace mantelpiece, a dark wood sideboard, or within a curated bookshelf display to contrast traditional metalwork with contemporary decor.

Dust gently using a soft dry microfibre cloth or camel-hair brush, avoiding chemical polish or water on the ormolu finish, and have the internal movement cleaned periodically by a horologist.
