1940 - 1960
For Sale by Arundel Clocks
Description

Hi

I have for sale a 1960s French carriage clock made in France by LEpée, and it is like new, as if it were old shop stock, in mint condition.

This is the best carriage clock of this type we have ever had the pleasure to own, and the biggest it is like a house brick.

Please note the other carriage clock is for sale seperatly its in one picture, so you can gauge the sheer size of this clock.

The Case

The case is in solid brass in the most popular case style. She stands 26cm high x 14.5cm wide with a depth of 12cm it is in perfect condition with mint bevelled glass sides/front/back door and top viewing glass.

The Dial

The dial is in mint original condition in white; the clock also retains its original black moon hands.

The Movement

The movement is an eight-day time and strike which hits a nice crisp bell on the hour and the half hours; the movement has been serviced and oiled so keeping great time over the eight days via the original escapement to the back.

The movement is fully signed to the rear plate.

The original key is included.

Overall, a very beautiful, big quality carriage clock by a quality French maker that looks stunning on display and contains all of its original features. This is quite a rare find these days.

The photos do not do this stunning clock any justice. The buyer will be delighted. Please read my feedback from other buyers about their clock purchases.

Please see my other clocks for sale.

I will post worldwide.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Developed in the early nineteenth century in France, carriage clocks were portable timepieces designed for travel, featuring a sturdy rectangular metal case with glass panels and an overhead carrying handle.

Traditional carriage clocks feature solid brass cases, bevelled glass panels, enamel or porcelain dials, and precision mechanical steel and brass escapement movements.

Authentic pieces typically feature maker signatures or stamps on the movement backplate or dial, heavy bevelled glass plates, fine brass finishing, and a corresponding winding key.

Position the clock centrally on a fireplace mantelpiece, within a curated bookshelf arrangement, or atop an executive office desk alongside understated modern accents.

Keep the brass case free of dust using a dry microfibre cloth, avoid chemical polishes that strip protective lacquer coatings, and have the mechanical movement lubricated by a horologist every few years.
