Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Regency chair design, prominent from roughly 1811 to 1830, is defined by classical Neoclassical influences, lightweight elegant proportions, and fine decorative timber carving. Common elements include curved crest rails, reeded or sabre legs, and elaborate carved scrolls often executed in dense mahogany or rosewood.

Cabinetmakers during the Regency period primarily utilised high-grade Cuban or West Indian mahogany, rosewood, and oak for structural frameworks. Seat frames featured traditional mortise and tenon joinery, stuffed with natural horsehair and finished with silk damask, velvet, or leather upholstery.

Authentic Gillows pieces frequently feature stamped maker marks on the underside of timber rails, such as GILLOWS or GILLOWS . LANCASTER. Additionally, Gillows furniture is distinguished by exceptionally high-grade timber, precise hand-cut dovetails, refined turning on the reeded legs, and superior balance in design.

A pair of Regency chairs can be placed on either side of a contemporary console table in an entryway or used as accent seating in a living room alcove. Combining dark mahogany frames and classical lines with modern minimalism creates a balanced contrast within contemporary spaces.

Maintain the timber finish by dusting regularly with a soft lint-free cloth and applying a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year in the direction of the grain. Keep the furniture away from direct heat sources and strong sunlight to prevent the timber from warping and the upholstery from fading.
