Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

An Albert chain, named after Prince Albert, is a specialised chain designed to secure a pocket watch to a gentlemans waistcoat. It typically features a swivel clasp at one end for the watch, a T-bar in the middle to anchor through a buttonhole, and occasionally a secondary drop chain for decorative fobs or seals.

Victorian watch chains were primarily crafted from solid sterling silver, hallmarked gold, gold fill, or pinchbeck. Secondary decorative accents often included mixed metals, carved gemstones, enamel work, or coat-of-arms fobs.

Authentic silver watch chains usually feature British hallmarks stamped on individual chain links, the T-bar, and the swivel clasp. Look for date letters, makers marks, and purity marks such as the lion passant for sterling silver.

While traditionally worn across a waistcoat, antique watch chains are now frequently repurposed as unique necklaces, wrapped multi-layer bracelets, or styled as decorative accents on modern tailored jackets.

Clean silver watch chains gently using a soft, lint-free polishing cloth specifically designed for silver. Avoid harsh liquid chemical dips or abrasive cleaners, which can strip protective patination and damage mixed-metal detailing.
