Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

The breakfront design originated in the eighteenth century and remained prominent throughout the Victorian era. It features a central section that projects forward beyond the flanking side sections, originally engineered to accommodate large volumes while providing visual architectural depth in formal libraries.

Victorian bookcases were predominantly constructed from dense woods such as mahogany, walnut, or oak, often finished with beeswax or French polish. Glazed doors incorporated individual glass panes set within solid wood astragal mouldings, complemented by hand-cast brass handles and locks.

Authentic nineteenth-century pieces feature hand-cut dovetail joints on drawers, original brass secondary fittings, and natural variations in glass texture. Look for signs of age inside timber drawers, hand-carved astragal glazing bars, and period-correct locks.

Position the piece as an architectural focal point along a primary wall in a study, dining room, or living space. Modern interiors often balance the weight of dark mahogany by styling shelves with neutral-toned ceramics, books grouped by palette, and clean contemporary lighting.

Keep the wood away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent timber shrinkage and lacquer fading. Apply high-quality beeswax twice a year using a soft cotton cloth, buffing gently along the natural grain to protect the original finish.
