Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Edwardian oak furniture produced between 1901 and 1910 often drew inspiration from earlier 17th-century Jacobean and Tudor designs. Pieces typically feature decorative surface carving, turned legs, compact proportions, and dark wood stains suited to the periods domestic interiors.

Tables from this period were primarily constructed from solid oak using traditional joinery, such as mortise and tenon joints. Features often include hand- or machine-carved table tops, turned spindle legs, and perimeter stretchers near the base for structural stability.

Authentic pieces show natural signs of age, including subtle wear to the finish on the legs and stretchers, shrinkage lines in the timber, and authentic oxidation on the underside. Look for hand-finished edge details and period-accurate joinery techniques rather than modern fasteners.

An occasional table functions effectively as a side table adjacent to an armchair or sofa, or as a hallway accent piece. Its dark timber and carved texture provide visual contrast when set against neutral walls or paired with contemporary upholstered seating.

Dust the surface regularly using a soft, lint-free cloth along the grain of the wood. Protect the original finish by applying a quality beeswax polish sparingly once or twice a year, and position the table away from direct heat sources and direct sunlight to prevent timber movement.
